For Whom the Savior Bled

I.

Each Year the Priest, by Heav'n's Decree,

Drew near to GOD with trembling Knee.

Beyond the Veil, with lifted Hands,

To plead Mercy o'er the Law's Demands.

II.

Brought forth the Nation's Guilt that Day,

Their Sin, their Shame, their Disarray;

And led a Lamb, the purest Kind,

To cover those whom GOD assign'd.

III.

The Guilt of Man the Lamb did bear,

Its Life the Price for Sin's Despair;

Yet not for Nations far and wide,

But Isr'el's Guilt that Blood supplied.

IV.

Twelve Stones upon his Breastplate lay,

The Tribes for whom he came to pray;

For them alone he interceded,

For them the Rite, the Blood was needed.

V.

Yet all he did in Temple dim

Foretold the CHRIST, the Lamb for them,

Who came, not bearing Ram or Dove,

But off'ring up eternal Love.

VI.

"It is finish'd!" the SAVIOR cried,

Our great High Priest then bow'd and died;

Atonement not by Beasts once slain,

But from the Flow of CHRIST'S own Veins.

VII.

Yet not for all His Blood was spilt

Outside the Cov’nant — no Appeal;

But for the Flock His FATHER gave,

The chosen Ones He came to save.

VIII.

He bore their Sins, and theirs alone,

Their Grief He carried as His own;

A perfect Ransom, full and free,

Ordain'd from all Eternity.

IX.

No wasted Drop, no aimless Loss,

No fruitless Death upon the Cross;

Each Wound fulfill'd the Plan GOD made,

A Love so great that cannot fade.

X.

Then from the Grave He rose in Might,

Triumphant o'er Death's darkest Night;

He lives to plead at GOD'S right Hand,

For ev’ry Soul His Blood hath spann'd.

XI.

GOD'S Wisdom vast, His Mercy free,

That chose from all a Family;

Not drawn by Worth, nor Earthly Place,

But by His own Sovereign Grace.

XII.

So let the Bride of CHRIST rejoice,

And lift in Awe her ransom'd Voice:

"For us He bled, for us He died —

CHRIST JESUS, and Him Crucified!"
