OUR STORY
The Mountain State Directory of Sovereign Grace Congregations was founded to address a practical challenge in West Virginia: helping individuals and families identify churches that are both doctrinally and practically Reformed, Calvinistic, and sovereign grace.
The idea emerged in the winter of 2022 when founder, Chris Curry, began searching for a church aligned with these convictions. What became clear during that process was not a lack of faithful congregations, but the difficulty of locating them through modern channels. Many churches with deep theological commitments and long-standing local ministries simply lacked a centralized or accessible online presence, making them harder to discover—especially for newcomers, relocating families, travelers, or those without established personal connections.
That experience led to the creation of a simple and straightforward solution: a centralized, online directory designed to improve clarity and accessibility. The goal was not to establish a new organization, network, or authority, but to offer a reliable platform that connects the people of West Virginia with Reformed and Calvinistic churches marked by sound doctrine, biblical preaching, and Christ-centered worship—churches already faithfully serving their communities, yet often underrepresented in broader search and media spaces.
The Directory includes congregations from a range of Reformed and Calvinistic traditions, including Baptists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, and Non-Denominational churches. While these congregations differ in secondary or tertiary matters of doctrine and practice, they are united by shared convictions: the authority of Scripture, the sovereignty of God in salvation, the person and work of Christ, the centrality of the gospel, and a commitment to making disciples within their local contexts.
Since its launch in May 2024, the Directory has grown steadily through social media, podcasts, regional connections, and word-of-mouth. It has helped individuals and families find church homes, supported pastors and churches in forming new relationships, assisted congregations seeking pulpit supply and full time ministers, and has increased awareness of churches that have long labored faithfully in their communities. It has also contributed to a growing burden among churches to pray together for revival. In addition, the Directory has, by God's grace, become a trusted platform for sharing events, publishing gospel-rich content from a variety of voices across the state, and offering resources to strengthen the church in West Virginia. It has also sparked interest in rising up other statewide Directory's to serve this very purpose in other parts of the country.
The Directory’s mission remains intentionally simple: to connect Mountaineers with faithful Reformed, Calvinistic, and sovereign grace churches and to strengthen the broader gospel witness in West Virginia through clarity, connection, and support.
May our banner always be:
