The Mountain State Directory of Sovereign Grace Congregations was founded to address a practical challenge: helping individuals and families across West Virginia locate churches that are doctrinally and practically Reformed, Calvinistic, and Sovereign Grace.

 

In the winter of 2022, Directory founder Chris Curry began searching for a church aligned with these principles. During that process, he encountered a familiar difficulty — that faithful churches were present throughout the state, but difficult to identify. Congregations committed to these historic Christian principles often lacked visibility, particularly in rural or lesser-known areas.

 

That experience led to the creation of a centralized resource: an online directory designed to connect people with churches committed to sound doctrine, biblical preaching, and Christ-centered worship. The goal was not to establish a new organization, but to offer a clear and accessible platform to bridge the gap between these churches and those seeking them.

 

Launched in May 2023, the Mountain State Directory of Sovereign Grace Congregations includes churches from a range of Reformed traditions — including Baptist, Presbyterian, Anglican, and Independent/Non-Denominational congregations. While these congregations may differ in structure or secondary and tertiary doctrine and practice, they nevertheless share a common commitment to the authority of Scripture, the sovereignty of God in salvation, the preaching of the gospel, and in making disciples.

 

Since its launch, the Directory has continued to grow through social media, podcasts, simple word-of-mouth, and regional connections. It has helped both individuals and families find church homes, assisted pastors in forming new relationships, increased awareness of smaller congregations that have long served their communities with little recognition, and has sparked an interest and great burden in praying together for revival.

 

The Directory’s mission remains straightforward: to make faithful Reformed, Calvinistic, and Sovereign Grace churches easier to find and to strengthen the broader gospel witness in West Virginia through clarity, connection, and support.
